Introduction
The following webpages will contain lots of information. Lots of text and graphics. However, it is imperative that you pay attention to the sections applicable to your TH. In this guide, we'll be exploring what makes a good attack. We'll be diving further than the common attacks like "queen walk plus something" or "lavaloon". By the end of this guide, you'll be able to look at a base, identify the strengths, weaknesses, and objectives of that base, and come up with a unique strategy and composition to counter it.
Let's get right into the fundamentals. A kill squad is a group of troops that destroys a sizable chunk of a base. In order for it to be successful, it needs to have ample tanking (usually golems), and enough DPS, or damage-per-second, to be able to effectively take out buildings. (usually heros / valks / bowlers / occasionally wizards, etc.) The kill squad is usually NOT used to take down a whole base, unless the base is extremely odd or rushed, but rather to take down a section of the base in order to meet certain objectives. These objectives include taking down the heros (usually queen), cc troops, the core of the base, a mass of defenses, to allow for better loon / hog pathing ,etc. We will explore the nature of these objectives further into the guide.

Most bases will require an attack strategy with what I call second-wave troops, in addition to the kill squad. These usually consist of hogs or loons (usually hogs). Sometimes, one may want the kill squad to take out most of the base, but there won't be enough power to take down the last semi-ring of defenses. These troops will be able to swoop in around the base and clean up the rest of the defenses. A typical example is shown below:
In Base A, the kill squad takes out most of the base. Then, while the golems of the kill squad continue to tank for the outer buildings, the player deploys hogs that travel around the base, healing if necessary. |

These kill squad + second-wave ground attacks are very common in both TH8 and TH9 bases. There are also hybrid and pure air attacks as well, most commonly lavaloon variants. We will cover how and when to use them later in this guide.
We'll be exploring these and other types of attacks throughout this guide. By the end, you will know how to
